Kindred Spirits

A Family Tale

Kindred Spirits is a 2D animated short film about the bond between a girl and her grandfather. 

The girl introduces the grandfather to an imaginary world filled with wonderful creatures. As they grow older, the two characters discover more and more of those fairy-tale creatures that are hidden all around them, and their bond grows stronger. The connection they’ve built, ensures they will always be a part of each other’s lives.

This short is my graduation project for the Master of Animation of MIVC – AKV | St. Joost in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. 

I wanted to combine a personal story with my love for nature and pattern designs. I created a world in which I could combine my colourful, detailed style with patterns that are used as textures. This combination creates a fun and unique dynamic for the animation.
