“Vanwaar?” is a collaboration between Ivy Kneppers and myself. It’s our graduation project for the bachelor studies Illustration – Animation at AKV | St. Joost in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
This project was an initiative to bring back creativity in primary school classes while learning something about the history of the customs, traditions and festivities of the Netherlands. The lesson consists of an animation and a creative assignment to go along with it.
This project was promoted by Erfgoed Brabant on their website.
“Bakerpraatjes” is the Dutch word for the old wives’ tales that were told to explain where children come from. Everyone has heard some of them during their lifetime, but the most famous one is babies being brought to mothers by storks. We found some other interesting ones, like babies being plucked from trees or being born out of kale.
The assignment for the kids is to come up with their own “bakerpraatje” and make a birth announcement card for the baby.
